The SECO 17011630 is a single-end square end mill designed for material removal in ferrous and high-strength alloy applications. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it provides better heat and wear resistance than standard M2 HSS tooling. The cutter measures 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch length of cut and a 3/8 inch shank diameter. A 30-degree right-hand spiral helix promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. This tool ships bright and uncoated, which is appropriate for general-purpose milling where a coating is not required. Machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople are the primary users.
The 17011630 is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, and S. Its short-length geometry makes it well matched for slotting, profiling, and step milling on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where rigidity is a priority. The 2-flute configuration provides adequate chip clearance when working softer steels or when chip load per tooth needs to remain manageable. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry into the workpiece without pre-drilling.
Designed for use in standard 3/8 inch collets or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys (ISO P, M, K, S).
A licensed machinist or trained toolroom technician should install and set this end mill. Secure the 3/8 inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and verify runout before cutting; maximum TIR is 0.0010 inch. Confirm spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity before engaging the cut. Do not exceed the rated length of cut to avoid tool deflection or premature breakage.
