The SECO 17010883 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it runs at a 1 inch cutting diameter and features five flutes with a right-hand cutting and flute direction. The stub-length geometry keeps the tool rigid and reduces deflection under heavy cuts. A 30-degree maximum helix angle promotes chip evacuation while maintaining edge strength. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this tool for hogging stock quickly before finish passes.
This end mill is suited to roughing applications in job shops, production machining cells, and tool rooms working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The 1-1/8 inch length of cut and 3-5/8 inch overall length make it a practical choice for shallow-to-moderate depth-of-cut work on vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. Its stub classification keeps overhang minimal, which is important when cutting harder materials where chatter must be controlled.
Designed as a direct-fit roughing end mill for standard R8, CAT, BT, and HSK toolholders accepting a 1 inch shank diameter; verify your specific holder bore and retention system before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the end mill from the toolholder. Confirm shank seating depth and tighten set screws or collet nuts to the toolholder manufacturer specification. This tool is not center-cutting and cannot be plunged axially; use a ramping or helical entry strategy to begin cuts.
