The SECO 17010839 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers strong heat and wear resistance in demanding cutting conditions. The 0.5 inch diameter, 4-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle provides efficient chip evacuation while maintaining a stable cut. The bright/uncoated finish suits a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With a 1 inch length of cut and 3 inch overall length, this short-series end mill fits standard milling chucks and collets used in production and job shop environments. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
This roughing end mill is suited for face milling, slotting, and peripheral milling applications in short-reach setups. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with conventional CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The non-center-cutting geometry means it is intended for side milling and ramping entries rather than plunge cuts. Its short-series length type provides added rigidity when machining steel, stainless, and other tough alloys at higher feed rates. The Series REM445 designation identifies it within a family of roughing end mills intended for high-material-removal-rate work.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2 inch milling chucks, collet holders, and end mill adapters on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in a clean, burr-free collet or chuck to the depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts, as excessive runout will reduce tool life and surface finish quality.
