The SECO 17010417 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it delivers the hardness and heat resistance required for cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals under demanding conditions. The tool features a 1.25-inch mill diameter, six flutes, and a 4-inch length of cut, making it well suited for full-depth slotting and profiling passes where maximizing chip clearance and tool life is the priority. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals specify this series for production and maintenance machining applications.
This roughing end mill fits conventional vertical and horizontal milling machines as well as CNC machining centers where a 1-1/4-inch straight shank is required. The REM445 series is engineered for regular-length applications involving roughing passes in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and similar workpiece materials. The non-center-cutting geometry means it is intended for side milling, slotting from a pre-drilled entry, or plunge operations where axial entry is not required. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for this configuration.

Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine guarding and OSHA lockout/tagout requirements. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the tool holder collet or end mill adapter and torque the retention hardware to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the tool if edge integrity is compromised.
