The SECO 17010415 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it measures 1.25 inches in diameter with a 3-inch length of cut and a 5.5-inch overall length. The 6-flute geometry with a 30-degree maximum helix angle supports chip evacuation and cutting stability during roughing passes. This tool is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC mills and manual knee mills where high metal removal rates are required.
The 17010415 is suited for roughing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous metals in production and job-shop environments. Its 1.25-inch shank diameter matches the mill diameter, making it compatible with standard R8, CAT, BT, and HSK toolholders of the appropriate bore size. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling on most vertical and horizontal machining centers. It is not center-cutting, so plunge entry is not recommended without a pre-drilled pilot hole or ramping entry strategy.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard milling toolholders accepting a 1.25-inch shank diameter, including collet chucks, side-lock holders, and hydraulic chucks of the appropriate bore size.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in a safe state per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the toolholder and torque the retention fasteners to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Because this end mill is not center-cutting, do not plunge directly into solid material — use a ramp, helical, or pre-drilled entry path. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace when surface finish or chip character degrades.
