The SECO 17010381 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge toughness suited for ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The 5/8 inch diameter cutting face is paired with a 2.5 inch length of cut and a 4-flute spiral geometry, giving machinists a reliable tool for hogging operations where high chip loads and interrupted cuts are common. The bright, uncoated finish keeps the tool at a lower cost point for general roughing work. At 1 pound and 4.625 inches overall length, it fits standard milling chucks and collet holders without an extended reach adapter.
This end mill is suited for use in manual mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers performing roughing passes on steel, alloy steel, stainless, and similar materials. The long-series configuration accommodates deeper shoulder cuts and pocketing where a standard-length tool would be restricted by spindle clearance. It is a common choice for job shops, tool rooms, and production floors running conventional or climb milling on medium-hardness workpieces. Installation and use should be performed by machinists familiar with feeds, speeds, and chip load calculations appropriate for cobalt tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style single-end roughing end mill for use in standard 5/8 inch collets, end mill holders, and milling chucks on vertical and horizontal milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist. De-energize and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing any end mill. Seat the shank fully in the collet or holder to the manufacturer-recommended grip depth and torque the drawbar or collet nut to the machine specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before engaging the cut, as excessive runout on a roughing tool accelerates flute wear and can cause chatter.
