The SECO 17010373 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in metalworking and machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention that standard HSS tooling cannot match. The 1/2 inch diameter, 4-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree maximum helix angle produces a shearing cut that reduces chatter and extends tool life during roughing passes. With a 1.25 inch length of cut and 3.25 inch overall length, this is a regular-length tool suited for general-purpose rough milling work.
This end mill is used in job shops, production floors, and maintenance machining environments where steel, stainless, and tough alloys are the primary workpiece materials. The bright/uncoated finish makes it a reliable choice when coolant is applied externally. It is not center-cutting, so it requires a pre-drilled entry point or ramping moves for plunge operations. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional vertical and horizontal milling setups.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill in the SECO REM445 series, compatible with standard 1/2 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling machine spindles accepting a 1/2 inch straight shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank fully in the holder and torque the retention fastener per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Because this tool is not center-cutting, avoid direct axial plunging into solid material without a pre-drilled hole or programmed ramp entry.
