The SECO 17007004 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for finishing operations in demanding materials. It features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.0200 inch corner radius, and five flutes configured in a right-hand spiral with a 45-degree high helix angle. The AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. At 2 inches overall length with a 1/2 inch length of cut, this is a stub-length geometry designed for rigidity and reduced deflection in tight clearance situations. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry, and accepts standard straight-cylindrical toolholders with a 3/8 inch shank.
This end mill is suited for finish milling operations on ferrous and hard materials in CNC machining centers. The corner radius geometry reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge, improving edge life compared to a sharp-corner tool. It is appropriate for profiling, contouring, and slot finishing in steel alloys, stainless grades, nickel-based superalloys, titanium, and hardened materials. The normal pitch and fixed helix design provide predictable chip evacuation in finishing cuts with light radial engagement. It is used by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch shank diameter. Part of the SECO S545R series.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Before changing tooling, confirm the spindle is at a complete stop and the machine is in a safe state per shop lockout procedures. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder to the recommended gauge-line depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout against the stated TIR maximum of 0.0005 inch before running production cuts.
