The SECO 17006990 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations on demanding workpiece materials. It features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and a 0.0450 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations and extends tool life in hardened and abrasive materials. The five-flute geometry and 45-degree high helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and a smooth surface finish. An AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and hardness retention at elevated cutting temperatures. This end mill is a single-end, centercutting design with a straight cylindrical shank, suited for use in standard toolholders on CNC milling machines operated by machinists working in precision manufacturing environments.
This end mill is designed for finishing cuts in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its short flute length and rigid five-flute carbide construction make it well suited for applications requiring tight tolerances and fine surface finishes. The S545R series targets shops running difficult-to-machine alloys where tool deflection and heat generation are primary concerns. It mounts in standard collet or shrink-fit toolholders and is appropriate for CNC vertical and horizontal milling centers.
Designed for use with standard CNC toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank. Part of the SECO S545R series, rated for primary workpiece materials including steel (P), stainless steel (M), superalloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H).
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a powered-down CNC spindle before tool engagement. Confirm toolholder bore and collet size match the 1/4 inch shank diameter before clamping. Verify runout against the TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches after seating to maintain tolerance and coating integrity. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications for the specific holder type in use.
