The SECO 17006978 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding materials. It features a 0.25-inch diameter, a 0.0150-inch corner radius, and five flutes with a right-hand spiral configuration and 45-degree high-helix geometry. The AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection, making this end mill well suited for dry or near-dry cutting in hardened steels and difficult alloys. It is a single-end, centercutting tool, allowing plunge entry in addition to peripheral and face milling passes. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this tool in CNC machining centers using standard toolholders.
This end mill is intended for finishing cuts in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its corner radius geometry reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge, extending tool life in interrupted cuts and high-feed profiling passes. The 0.75-inch length of cut and 2.5-inch overall length make it suitable for shallow-to-moderate depth finishing operations in part cavities, pockets, and contoured surfaces. It belongs to SECO Series S545R and carries a normal pitch designation.
Designed for use with standard CNC toolholders accepting a 0.25-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials as identified by material codes P, M, S, and H.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine control locked out before tool changes. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and verify runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum before beginning the cut. Confirm toolholder clamping torque meets the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; use external coolant or air blast as appropriate for the workpiece material.
