The SECO 17005022 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision cutting in demanding composite and abrasive materials. Built to Series DIA230 standards, it carries a CVD diamond coating that dramatically extends tool life when machining carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and similar hard-to-cut materials. The cutter measures 0.0625 inches (1/16 inch) in diameter with a 3/16-inch length of cut, a 1/8-inch straight cylindrical shank, and a 1-1/2-inch overall length. Micrograin carbide substrate paired with a 30-degree spiral flute geometry provides a balance of edge sharpness and rigidity at this small diameter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, automotive composite, and precision manufacturing environments are the primary installers and users of this tool.
This end mill is designed for single-end, centercutting operations in CFRP and other abrasive non-metallic materials where conventional coated carbide tools wear rapidly. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation make it compatible with standard vertical machining centers and CNC routers running conventional milling programs. The regular-length profile suits typical fixturing depths without extended-reach requirements. No coolant-through capability is present, so dry cutting or external mist cooling is the expected approach for composite workpieces where coolant contamination is a concern.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and routers where the primary workpiece material is CFRP or comparable abrasive composite materials, as designated by the Series DIA230 product family and primary workpiece material code C.
This tool is installed and operated by qualified CNC machinists or tool-and-die professionals. Ensure the spindle and tool holder are powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill. Use a precision collet or end mill holder sized for a 1/8-inch shank to maintain concentricity and protect the tight shank diameter tolerance of -0.0001 to -0.0004 inches. Inspect the CVD diamond coating for chipping before each use, as damaged edges accelerate delamination in composite workpieces.
