The SECO 17005012 is a single-end, solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) materials. It features a CVD diamond coating that delivers the hardness and thermal resistance required to cut abrasive composite materials without rapid edge degradation. The 4-flute, spiral-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality. With a cutting diameter of 0.5 inches and a 2-inch length of cut, this tool handles slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations in CNC machining centers. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in aerospace, automotive, and advanced manufacturing environments.
This end mill is purpose-built for machining CFRP and other abrasive composite materials where standard carbide tooling wears prematurely. The CVD diamond coating, micrograin carbide substrate, and right-hand cut with right-hand flute configuration make it suitable for high-speed, dry or near-dry milling operations on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. The straight shank allows direct mounting in standard collet chucks or end mill holders. It belongs to the SECO DIAL430 series, which is engineered specifically for composite and non-ferrous material applications.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or OEM-style tooling option within the SECO DIAL430 series for CNC machining applications involving CFRP and abrasive composite workpiece materials. Use in machines with standard straight-shank collet or end mill holder tooling systems accepting a 0.5-inch shank diameter.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle is locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Verify collet or holder runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches to maintain cut quality and tool life. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer feeds-and-speeds guidance for CVD diamond-coated end mills on composite materials, as improper parameters accelerate coating delamination.
