The SECO 17005008 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for demanding material removal in carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) applications. Part of the DIAL430 series, it features a CVD diamond coating that delivers exceptional abrasion resistance when cutting highly abrasive composite materials. The cutter measures 0.25 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch length of cut and a 3-inch overall length. Its 4-flute, spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes chip evacuation while maintaining surface finish quality. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the rigidity and edge retention required for high-speed composite machining. This tool is sold as a single-end design.
This end mill is primarily intended for machining CFRP and other abrasive composite materials in aerospace, automotive, and advanced manufacturing environments. The CVD diamond coating makes it well suited for applications where uncoated or conventionally coated carbide tools wear prematurely. The centercutting design allows plunge entry as well as peripheral milling operations. A right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction and straight shank make it compatible with standard CNC machining center and router toolholders. It is a long-length classification tool, offering extended reach into workpiece features without sacrificing rigidity.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the toolholder. Use a collet or end mill holder rated for the 0.25-inch shank diameter and torque to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before each use, as CVD diamond coatings are brittle and can chip if the tool is dropped or mishandled.
