Product Description

The SECO 17004992 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance milling of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials and other abrasive composites. It features a CVD diamond coating, which provides the extreme hardness and wear resistance required to cut abrasive non-metallic materials without rapid edge degradation. The tool has a 3/8 inch cutter diameter, a 7/8 inch length of cut, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length. It is part of SECO's DIA430 series and is built from micrograin solid carbide for dimensional stability and edge retention across demanding cutting cycles.

This end mill is intended for machining CFRP laminates, composites, and similarly abrasive materials in aerospace, automotive, and industrial fabrication environments. Its right-hand cut, right-hand spiral flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle help clear chips efficiently and reduce delamination risk in layered composite workpieces. The centercutting design allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling. It installs in standard 3/8 inch straight-shank tool holders and is suited for CNC machining centers where tight tolerances and surface finish consistency are critical.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the straight shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. When machining CFRP, dust extraction is strongly recommended due to hazardous airborne particulate generated during cutting.
