The SECO 17004988 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision milling in demanding composite and abrasive materials. Part of the DIA430 series, it features a CVD diamond coating applied to a micrograin carbide substrate, producing exceptional hardness and wear resistance suited for carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) cutting. The tool measures 0.125 inches in diameter with a 0.5 inch length of cut and a 1.5 inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry is standard. The centercutting design allows plunge entry into the workpiece.
This end mill is intended for professional machining applications where CFRP, composites, and other abrasive non-metallic materials are being processed. The CVD diamond finish extends tool life significantly compared to uncoated or PVD-coated carbide tooling in these materials. The 1/8 inch straight shank fits standard collet chucks used on CNC machining centers, high-speed spindles, and precision manual mills. The regular-length profile keeps the tool rigid during high-feed passes in shallow-to-moderate depth cuts. It is sold and packaged as a single unit.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tooling solution for CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles accepting 1/8 inch straight-shank end mills. Primary application is CFRP and abrasive composite materials per the DIA430 series specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down the spindle and engage the machine lock before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet and torque the collet nut to the chuck manufacturer's specification using the appropriate spanner wrench. Verify runout does not exceed the TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches before beginning production cuts.
