The SECO 17004986 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding material applications. Built from micrograin carbide with a CVD diamond coating, this tool delivers the hardness and edge retention needed for cutting carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and similar abrasive composites. It features a 1/16 inch cutting diameter, a 3/16 inch length of cut, and a 4-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle. The right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional CNC milling centers. It is a single-end, centercutting design, meaning it can plunge as well as profile. Machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, composite fabrication, and precision job shops are the primary users.
This end mill is sized for small-diameter, high-precision work. The 1/16 inch mill diameter and 1/8 inch straight cylindrical shank make it suitable for tight-tolerance features in CFRP panels, laminates, and similar non-metallic abrasive materials. Its regular length classification and 1-1/2 inch overall length keep it rigid in the spindle, reducing deflection during full-depth passes at this diameter. The CVD diamond coating is specifically suited for non-ferrous and composite materials where conventional carbide coatings wear prematurely. This tool is part of the SECO DIA430 series.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles accepting a 1/8 inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material designation is CFRP. Part of the SECO DIA430 series.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. The tool must be seated fully and concentrically in a precision collet or toolholder to maintain the stated TIR maximum of 0.0003 inches. Ensure the spindle and machine are powered off and the axis is locked before changing tooling. Do not use this CVD diamond-coated tool on ferrous materials, as diamond coatings react with iron at elevated temperatures and will degrade rapidly.
