The SECO 17004984 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision machining of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials. Part of the DIA430 series, it features a CVD diamond coating that delivers exceptional abrasion resistance and extended tool life when cutting highly abrasive composite workpieces. The cutter measures 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch) in diameter with a 0.0469-inch (3/64-inch) length of cut and mounts on a 1/8-inch straight cylindrical shank. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation at micro-scale cut depths. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry. This tool is intended for use by machinists and CNC tooling specialists working with advanced composite materials.
This end mill is suited for finish milling, slotting, and contouring operations in CFRP and other abrasive composite materials. The micro diameter and short length of cut make it appropriate for intricate detail work in aerospace, defense, and high-performance manufacturing environments. The regular-length geometry and 1/2-inch overall length of 1.5 inches keep the tool rigid during tight-tolerance passes. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional CNC machining centers. Single-end configuration means the tool is replaced rather than flipped when the cutting edge wears.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application tool for CNC machining centers requiring a 1/8-inch shank, 4-flute, CVD diamond-coated square end mill in the SECO DIA430 series for CFRP composite machining.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before changing tooling. Seat the 1/8-inch shank fully in a compatible collet or tool holder and torque the retention system to the machine manufacturer specification. Verify runout against the 0.0002-inch TIR maximum before beginning the cut. CVD diamond-coated tools should not be used on ferrous metals, as the coating reacts adversely with iron-based materials.
