The SECO 17004829 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in steel and hardened materials. Part of the MBZ215 series, it features a 1/8-inch mill diameter with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating that extends tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The 15-degree low helix angle and two right-hand spiral flutes support both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool pass. Its extended-reach geometry and reduced neck diameter make it well suited for deep-cavity and detail milling work where clearance is critical. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments will find this end mill a practical choice for tight-tolerance work.
This end mill is built for milling steel and hardened materials in applications where a small-diameter, extended-reach tool is required. The 1/4-inch reach length and reduced 0.121-inch neck diameter allow access to recessed features and deep pockets that standard-length end mills cannot reach. The single-end, center-cutting design supports plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot milling. It is appropriate for use in vertical machining centers and CNC routers running steel, hardened tool steels, and similar ferrous workpiece materials.
Designed as a solid carbide ball end mill replacement suitable for CNC machining centers using straight-cylindrical shank toolholders with a 1/4-inch bore, working in steel and hardened material applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the toolholder. Use a precision collet or end mill holder sized for the 1/4-inch straight-cylindrical shank, and verify runout does not exceed the 0.0005-inch TIR maximum before cutting. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque for this shank diameter.
