The SECO 17004773 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance milling in hardened materials and steel. Part of the MZ645 series, it features a 0.25-inch diameter cutting edge with a 0.625-inch length of cut and a 45-degree helix angle. The six-flute, right-hand spiral configuration supports aggressive stock removal while maintaining surface finish quality. An AlTiN coating increases heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The straight 0.25-inch shank and 3-inch overall length make it compatible with standard collet and end mill holder setups. This tool is single-end and center-cutting, allowing plunge entry. It is used by machinists and tooling specialists in CNC milling operations.
The 17004773 is suited for milling hardened materials and steel workpieces in production and job shop environments. The AlTiN finish and micrograin carbide substrate are selected for high-heat, high-abrasion applications where tool life is a primary concern. The six-flute geometry reduces chip load per tooth, which supports higher feed rates in short-chipping materials. This end mill is appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes on ferrous materials where tight tolerances and consistent surface quality are required.
Designed for use with standard 0.25-inch collets and end mill holders in CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials are hardened materials and steel (material codes H and P). Part of the SECO MZ645 series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before mounting, confirm the spindle and tool holder are clean and free of debris that could affect runout. Secure the shank fully within the collet or holder to the recommended engagement depth per the tool holder manufacturer. Verify maximum TIR does not exceed 0.0005 inches before beginning a cut to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
