The SECO 17004714 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from solid carbide with a TiCN coating, it delivers hardness and heat resistance needed for demanding cuts. The mill features a 3/8-inch diameter, three flutes in a right-hand spiral configuration, and a coarse pitch geometry that breaks chips efficiently and reduces cutting forces. With a 30-degree maximum helix angle and a 45-degree chamfer at 0.020 inches, it is suited for roughing passes where high metal removal rates matter. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals are the primary installers and operators of this tool.
This roughing end mill is used in milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills for roughing operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The TiCN coating improves wear resistance and extends tool life in abrasive cutting conditions. Its 1/2-inch length of cut and 2-inch overall length make it well suited for shallow-to-moderate depth roughing passes in dies, molds, fixtures, and general machining work. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER and Weldon-style toolholders designed for 3/8-inch shank tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style single-end roughing end mill for use in standard 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical toolholders on CNC and manual milling equipment.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or toolholder and torque the retention hardware to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or wear before each use, and confirm runout is within acceptable limits before starting a cut.
