The SECO 17004674 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it handles demanding cuts in ferrous and hardened materials where heat resistance and edge retention are critical. The tool features four flutes in a fine-pitch, right-hand spiral configuration with a 20-degree maximum helix angle. The 3/4 inch diameter matches the Weldon flat shank diameter, providing a secure, slip-resistant grip in the spindle. A 45-degree chamfer at 0.025 inches width helps protect the cutting edge during initial engagement. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this type of tooling in production and job-shop environments.
This roughing end mill is suited for milling operations on machining centers and manual mills where rough stock removal is the priority before finishing passes. The 1 inch length of cut (LOC) and 3 inch overall length (OAL) make it appropriate for moderate-depth slotting, profiling, and pocketing in steel, stainless steel, and similar alloys. The center-cutting design allows plunge entry. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional CNC spindle rotation. The Series SR420 designation identifies the product family within the SECO lineup.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for 3/4 inch end mill holders and Weldon-flat collet systems on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat shank securely in the holder and torque the set screw to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut to avoid premature tool wear or chipping.
