The SECO 17004669 is a single-end roughing end mill engineered for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it handles high-heat cutting environments where tool life and dimensional stability matter. The mill measures 7/16 inch (0.4375 inch) in diameter with a 1-inch length of cut and a 2-3/4-inch overall length. Four spiral flutes in a fine-pitch configuration with a right-hand cutting and flute direction deliver efficient chip evacuation. A 45-degree chamfer angle and 0.020-inch chamfer width are built into the geometry. Maximum helix angle is 20 degrees. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole.
This end mill is suited for roughing passes in ferrous and hard materials across job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. The Weldon flat shank provides positive drive retention in standard end mill holders and reduces slippage under heavy cutting loads. The AlTiN coating extends tool life in dry and semi-dry cutting conditions at elevated temperatures. Machinists, toolmakers, and CNC operators working with vertical or horizontal machining centers will find this tool appropriate for slotting, profiling, and peripheral roughing cuts where a fine-pitch 4-flute geometry is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 7/16-inch end mill holders with Weldon flat drive capability, part of the SECO SR420 series.
Installation requires a compatible end mill holder with a Weldon flat set screw; verify holder bore diameter matches the 7/16-inch shank before mounting. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Shank diameter tolerance is -0.0001 to -0.0004 inch; inspect holder bore condition to maintain concentricity and avoid runout. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures for tool change and cutting parameter setup.
