The SECO 17004668 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it delivers heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The 7/16 inch (0.4375 inch decimal) mill diameter pairs with a 9/16 inch length of cut and a 2-1/2 inch overall length. Four spiral flutes in a fine pitch geometry reduce chatter and improve chip evacuation. Right-hand cutting and flute direction make this a standard-orientation tool for conventional CNC and manual milling setups. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals, it is suited for production and job-shop environments requiring consistent roughing performance.
This end mill is intended for roughing passes where stock removal rate is the priority over surface finish. The AlTiN coating makes it well-suited for harder ferrous materials and high-temperature alloys. The Weldon flat shank provides positive drive in set-screw tool holders, reducing pullout risk under heavy cuts. The 45-degree chamfer angle at the tip allows lead-in cutting, and the centercutting capability permits plunge entry. With a 20-degree maximum helix angle and fine pitch, it is optimized for stability in interrupted cuts and difficult workpiece geometries commonly encountered in aerospace, automotive, and general machining applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit option for 7/16 inch Weldon flat shank tool holders used in standard CNC machining centers and manual knee mills accepting single-end roughing end mills.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before installing or removing the tool. Secure the Weldon flat against the set screw in the tool holder to the torque specification listed by the holder manufacturer. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, and confirm cutting direction matches the spindle rotation of the machine.
