The SECO 17004666 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, this tool delivers hardness and heat resistance suited for cutting ferrous metals and hardened steels. It measures 3/8 inch in diameter with a 1/2 inch length of cut and a 2 inch overall length. The 4-flute, fine-pitch spiral geometry combined with a 20-degree maximum helix angle helps manage chip evacuation while maintaining cut stability. The 3/8 inch Weldon flat shank provides secure tool holding in standard end mill holders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments are the primary users of this tool.
This roughing end mill fits milling operations on machining centers and manual mills where high material removal rates are required before finishing passes. The fine pitch and right-hand cutting direction make it suitable for slotting, profiling, and roughing passes in ferrous and hardened workpiece materials. The AlTiN coating supports dry or minimal-lubrication cutting environments by reducing heat buildup at the cutting edge. This is a regular-length tool appropriate for standard reach applications where extended reach is not needed.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application tool for standard 3/8 inch end mill holders using a Weldon flat shank interface on vertical machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully into the holder and tighten the set screw against the flat to prevent axial pullout. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts, as excessive runout will accelerate tool wear.
