The SECO 17004665 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Manufactured from solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it delivers excellent heat resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials. The 5/16 inch diameter tool features 4 flutes in a right-hand spiral configuration with a fine pitch profile that reduces chatter and vibration during heavy cuts. At 2-1/2 inches overall length with a 13/16 inch length of cut, this end mill suits a range of short-reach roughing applications. A Weldon flat shank provides positive drive and minimizes pullout under high-feed conditions. This tool is installed by machinist-level trades and CNC tooling professionals.
The SECO 17004665 is suited for roughing passes in vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills where a 5/16 inch tool diameter is appropriate. The AlTiN coating and solid carbide substrate make it a strong candidate for dry or minimal-coolant cutting in hardened steels and stainless alloys. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving the operator flexibility to enter a workpiece directly without pre-drilling. The 20-degree maximum helix angle and fine pitch design are optimized for controlled chip evacuation in tight-tolerance pocketing and slotting operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for milling applications requiring a 5/16 inch diameter, 4-flute solid carbide roughing end mill with a Weldon flat shank. Part of the SECO SR420 series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat shank securely in a compatible end mill holder and torque the set screw to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation before initiating a cut.
