The SECO 17004664 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it delivers heat resistance and wear performance suited to ferrous and hardened materials. The cutter measures 5/16 inch in diameter with a 7/16 inch length of cut and a 2 inch overall length. Four flutes in a fine-pitch spiral configuration promote chip evacuation during heavy roughing passes. The Weldon flat shank provides a secure, slip-resistant tool hold in compatible chucks. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. This end mill is installed and run by machinists and tool-room professionals.
The 17004664 is suited for roughing operations on machining centers and manual mills where high material removal rates are required. Its centercutting capability allows plunge entry as well as conventional profiling. The fine pitch and 20-degree maximum helix angle make it appropriate for applications where chatter control and consistent chip load are priorities. The AlTiN coating supports dry or near-dry cutting in steel, stainless, and similar alloys. Typical use scenarios include roughing pockets, slots, and profiles on ferrous workpieces in job shop and production environments.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide roughing end mill in the SR420 series, compatible with tool holders accepting a 5/16 inch Weldon flat shank.
Installation is performed by machinists using an appropriate Weldon flat set-screw tool holder torqued per the holder manufacturer specification. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate against the material being cut before engaging the workpiece. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before installing or removing the end mill. Do not exceed the rated length of cut or extend the tool beyond its intended reach, as doing so reduces rigidity and increases deflection risk.
