The SECO 17004612 is a single-end, 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and other abrasive composite materials. Built on the DIAL430 series platform, it features a CVD diamond coating that delivers the extreme surface hardness needed to resist the rapid tool wear that CFRP imposes on uncoated or PVD-coated tools. The cutter measures 0.5 inches in diameter with a 3-inch length of cut and a 6-inch overall length, making it well suited for deeper-reach applications. The micrograin carbide substrate supports edge integrity at the cutting speeds typically used in composite machining.
This end mill is intended for milling CFRP panels, laminates, and structural composite components in aerospace, motorsport, and advanced manufacturing environments. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, and the right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle promotes clean chip evacuation while minimizing delamination risk. It fits standard 0.5-inch collets or end mill holders and is used by machinists and CNC operators running dedicated composite machining cells.
Designed for machining CFRP materials and fits any machine tool or CNC machining center equipped with a standard 0.5-inch collet, shrink-fit holder, or end mill holder. Part of the SECO DIAL430 series for composite cutting applications.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or tool-change state. Seat the 0.5-inch straight shank fully and evenly in the holder before torquing the retention mechanism to the machine manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout against the TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches before beginning a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; verify chip evacuation strategy prior to running deep-reach passes in CFRP.
