The SECO 17004608 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) materials and other abrasive composites. It features a CVD diamond coating that delivers exceptional hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life significantly in non-metallic and composite applications. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. At 3/8 inch in diameter with a 1-3/8 inch length of cut and 4 inch overall length, this is a long-series tool suited for reaching into deeper features. Micrograin carbide substrate adds toughness at the cutting edge.
This end mill is intended for machining CFRP laminates, carbon fiber composites, and similarly abrasive non-metallic workpiece materials. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral and slot milling. It is used in CNC machining centers across aerospace, motorsport, and advanced manufacturing environments where composite part machining is routine. The straight 3/8 inch shank fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders common to these setups. The Series DIAL430 long-series design provides added reach without sacrificing rigidity at this diameter.

Installation and tool changes must be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and machine controls locked out. Seat the straight shank fully into a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. When machining CFRP, use appropriate respiratory and dust-control measures per applicable shop safety regulations, as composite dust is a recognized health hazard. Inspect the CVD diamond coating for chipping or delamination before each use and replace the tool if edge integrity is compromised.
