The SECO 17004601 is a solid carbide ball end mill engineered for demanding roughing and finishing operations on hard and abrasive materials. It carries a CVD diamond coating, which provides exceptional hardness and wear resistance for machining composites, graphite, ceramics, and other abrasive workpiece materials. The cutter measures 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches) in diameter with a 1-1/8 inches length of cut and a 3-inch overall length, placing it in the extra-long category for reaching into deep pockets and cavities. Four right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree medium helix angle support efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. This tool is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC milling applications.
The 17004601 is suited for CNC machining centers performing precision milling in aerospace, mold-and-die, and advanced composite fabrication environments. Its extra-long reach and CVD diamond coating make it particularly effective where standard-length end mills cannot access deep features or where abrasion resistance is the primary tooling concern. The single-end, straight-cylindrical shank design works with standard collet and end mill holder systems. This tool is intended for finishing and semi-finishing passes as well as light roughing in abrasive non-ferrous and composite materials.
Part of the SECO DIALB430 series (catalog number DIALB430-0.188-D6-B.0-Z4). Designed for use in standard collet chucks and end mill holders accepting a 3/16 inches straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for roughing and finishing operations per the UNSPSC product classification 27112803.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians on CNC milling equipment. Before mounting, verify that the spindle and tool holder are clean and free of runout-inducing debris; the maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0005 inches. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder to the tool holder manufacturer's specified torque. Do not exceed the tool's rated cutting parameters, and consult SECO cutting data recommendations for appropriate speeds and feeds based on workpiece material.
