The SECO 17004600 is a single-end, 4-flute square end mill engineered for precision milling of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a CVD diamond coating, it delivers the hardness and edge retention required for abrasive composite workpieces. The mill measures 3/16 inch in diameter with a 1-1/8 inch length of cut and a 4 inch overall length, placing it in the long series category. The 30-degree spiral helix promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the centercutting geometry allows plunge entry into the workpiece.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills used in aerospace, motorsport, and industrial fabrication shops where CFRP and composite laminates are common. The long series length of cut makes it appropriate for deeper slot and profile cuts in composite panels and structures. It is a single-end tool sold individually, intended for use by machinists and tooling specialists working with non-metallic abrasive materials that quickly wear conventional coatings. The CVD diamond finish extends tool life significantly in these demanding applications.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 3/16 inch shank collet or tool holder. Intended primarily for CFRP and composite laminate workpieces as indicated by the primary workpiece material designation in the DIAL430 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolroom procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or changing tooling. Seat the 3/16 inch shank fully and evenly in the collet and torque the collet nut to the tool holder specification. When machining CFRP, dust extraction is strongly recommended, as composite particulate presents a respiratory hazard.
