The SECO 17004505 is a straight flute thread mill designed for cutting 1/4-18 NPTF threads in both external and internal applications. Built from solid carbide and finished with an AlCrN coating, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suitable for ferrous and non-ferrous materials in production machining environments. The tool features 3 flutes with a cutting diameter of 0.305 inches and a length of cut of 0.625 inches. With an overall length of 3 inches and a 5/16-inch shank diameter, it is sized for use in CNC machining centers where rigid toolholding is standard. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this tool for pipe thread work requiring NPTF dimensional accuracy.
This thread mill is suited for shops producing fittings, manifolds, hydraulic components, or any part requiring sealed pipe thread connections to NPTF standards. The straight flute geometry handles both internal and external thread profiles in a single tool, reducing the need for taps or dies in applications where thread milling is preferred for its tolerance control and reduced cutting forces. It is appropriate for use on machining centers with helical interpolation capability.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with helical interpolation and standard 5/16-inch straight shank toolholders. Suitable for NPTF pipe thread milling in external and internal applications where thread milling is specified over tapping.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with thread milling cycles and helical interpolation programming. Secure the shank fully in a collet or end mill holder rated for the tool diameter before running. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the cutting material and tool manufacturer recommendations before engaging the workpiece. Do not use this tool in manual machines or without a rigid, vibration-minimizing toolholder.
