The SECO 17003800 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Part of the SB335 series, this single-end tool features a 1/2-inch mill diameter, a 5/8-inch length of cut, and a 3-flute spiral configuration with a 35-degree medium helix angle. The AlTiN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection, making it suited for aggressive cutting conditions. With a nose radius of 0.2500 inches, it generates accurate ball-nose profiles for contouring and finishing passes. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments install this type of end mill in milling machines and machining centers.
This end mill is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — material groups P, M, and S in standard ISO classification. The stub-length design with a 1/2-inch Weldon flat shank provides rigid setup and positive drive in standard ER and Weldon-style toolholders. The 2.5-inch overall length and 0.6250-inch reach length suit it for shorter-reach profiling, slot milling, and contour work where chatter control is a priority. It is rated for both roughing and finishing operations, reducing the need to switch tools between passes.
Designed for use in standard Weldon-style and compatible toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material groups P, M, and S). Manufacturer catalog reference: SB335-0.500-D1-B.3-Z3.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the Weldon flat against the setscrew in the toolholder and torque the setscrew to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.0005 inches before beginning a cut.
