The SECO 17003788 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding ferrous materials. Part of the SB335 series, this single-end tool features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and a 0.125 inch nose radius that defines the ball geometry. Three right-hand spiral flutes with a 35-degree helix angle provide balanced chip evacuation and surface finish quality during both roughing and finishing operations. An AlTiN PVD coating adds thermal resistance and surface hardness, extending tool life in elevated-temperature cutting environments. The straight cylindrical shank measures 1/4 inch in diameter, and the overall length is 2 inches. This tool is intended for use by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals in production or job shop settings.
The 17003788 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, and S. The short length type and rigid solid carbide construction make it well-suited for profiling, contouring, and slotting operations where stability and tight tolerances are required. The right-hand cutting direction is compatible with standard CNC spindle rotation. This end mill does not feature extended reach, coolant-through capability, a chipbreaker, or a variable helix or index configuration, making it a straightforward choice for conventional high-speed machining applications.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard straight-bore 1/4 inch toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO P, M, and S material groups).
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder before tightening. Verify runout does not exceed the rated TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches after mounting. Consult the machine manufacturer and applicable cutting data guidelines for appropriate feed, speed, and depth-of-cut parameters for the target workpiece material.
