The SECO 17003640 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 45-degree high helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. With two flutes and a right-hand cutting direction, this single-end tool is suited for both roughing and finishing passes. The bright/uncoated finish makes it a strong choice when working with softer, gummier materials where coatings can cause buildup. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is part of the SECO AB245 series and is configured as a stub-length tool with a 3 inch overall length and a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The stub configuration provides rigidity for applications where chatter and deflection must be minimized. It is well suited for profiling, slotting, and contouring operations on aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. The center-cutting geometry allows for direct plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole when required by the operation.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch toolholders including collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit holders compatible with straight-cylindrical shanks. Primary workpiece materials are aluminum and non-ferrous metals (material code N). Part of the SECO AB245 series; catalog number AB245-0.500-D1-B.0-Z2.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolchanger is in a safe state before loading or unloading the tool. Verify shank runout does not exceed the specified TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches after seating in the holder. Follow your facility's tool management and torque specifications for the specific toolholder type in use.
