The SECO 17003608 is a single-end, square-profile end mill designed for demanding metal-removal operations in machining centers and CNC mills. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN coating, this tool handles steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. The 5-flute geometry with a 45-degree spiral helix angle promotes aggressive chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. At 0.4375 inches (7/16 in) in diameter with a 2-inch length of cut, it is well suited to full-depth slotting, profiling, and shoulder milling in production environments where tool life and dimensional accuracy are critical.
The 17003608 belongs to SECO Series S545 and targets production machining applications across a wide range of workpiece materials. Its right-hand cut, right-hand flute spiral configuration is the standard orientation for most CNC vertical and horizontal machining setups. The 0.4375-inch straight shank fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders sized for 7/16-inch tooling. It is a regular-length tool at 4 inches overall, making it a practical choice for the majority of pocket, slot, and contour operations that do not require extended reach.

Tool setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle powered off and the machine in an e-stop or lockout/tagout state. Seat the straight shank fully into the holder and torque the collet nut or set screw to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout against the 0.0005-inch maximum TIR before beginning a production run. Inspect cutting edges for chipping after use on hardened or abrasive workpiece materials, as edge condition directly affects dimensional accuracy.
