Product Description

The SECO 17003607 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill from the S545 series, designed for high-performance milling in demanding production environments. It carries a mill diameter of 7/16 inches with a matching 7/16-inch straight shank, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 2-3/4-inch overall length. The AlTiN coating supports extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures, making this end mill well suited for aggressive material removal rates. A 45-degree helix angle and spiral flute geometry promote efficient chip evacuation. Centercutting capability allows for direct plunge entry. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing install and run this tool.

This end mill is rated for use across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. The short length-of-cut profile provides added rigidity, reducing deflection in side milling and slotting operations. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional CNC machining center setups. The micrograin carbide substrate supports fine edge retention at higher surface footage.

Key Features

  • 5-flute geometry increases feed-per-tooth capability compared to 4-flute designs in finishing and semi-finishing passes
  • AlTiN coating provides high oxidation resistance and hardness for cutting steel, stainless, and hardened materials
  • 45-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and efficient chip flow
  • Centercutting design allows direct plunge milling without pilot drilling
  • Micrograin carbide substrate delivers fine edge integrity and wear resistance
  • Short length-of-cut profile maximizes rigidity and minimizes deflection in tight-reach applications

Compatibility

Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard straight-shank toolholders sized for 7/16-inch shank diameter. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials per S545 series application ratings.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool change cycle is complete before handling. Seat the shank fully in the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout does not exceed the tool TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches before starting a cut.
