The SECO 17003601 is a solid micrograin carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance milling across a wide range of workpiece materials. This single-end tool features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length, with a matching 3/8 inch straight shank. Five spiral flutes with a 45-degree helix angle and an AlTiN coating deliver efficient chip evacuation and heat resistance in demanding cutting environments. It is centercutting capable and runs with a right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction. This tool is part of the SECO S545 series.
This end mill is suited for milling operations in job shops, production machining, and aerospace or industrial fabrication environments. Its AlTiN coating and micrograin carbide substrate make it effective across a broad material range including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. Typical applications include profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling where a rigid 3/8 inch solid carbide tool is appropriate. The centercutting geometry also allows plunge entry where required.
Designed for use in standard 3/8 inch collets, end mill holders, or shrink-fit toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), high-temperature alloys (S), aluminum and non-ferrous metals (N), and hardened materials (H) per ISO material classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the shank fully within the toolholder to the recommended gauge-line depth and verify runout against the stated TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches before cutting. Power down the machine spindle completely before changing or indexing tooling. Do not exceed the rated speed and feed parameters published by SECO for the S545 series for the specific workpiece material being machined.
