The SECO 17003594 is a single-end square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride), this tool handles elevated cutting temperatures and abrasive workpiece materials. It carries a 5/16 inch cutting diameter, a 7/16 inch length of cut, and a 45-degree helix angle that promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduced chatter. With 5 flutes and a right-hand spiral flute geometry, it delivers a high feed-per-tooth capacity in finishing and semi-finishing passes. This end mill is sold as a single unit and is sized for use in standard CNC machining centers and manual mills with appropriate collet or end mill holders.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. Its stub-length profile and straight shank make it a practical choice for close-clearance work and short-reach applications in production and job shop environments. The AlTiN coating supports dry and near-dry machining strategies commonly used when cutting ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry where required by the application.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and similar equipment accepting a 5/16 inch straight shank end mill. Suitable for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials per SECO Series S545 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with proper end mill holding and runout requirements. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Secure the shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and verify TIR before beginning a cut; maximum rated TIR for this tool is 0.0005 inches. Do not exceed the rated length of cut or apply side loads beyond the tool geometry specifications, as carbide end mills are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive deflection.
