The SECO 17003589 is a single-end square end mill from the S545 series, designed for high-performance milling in demanding metal-cutting applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide with an AlTiN coating, it carries a 0.25 inch cutting diameter, a 0.375 inch length of cut, and a 45-degree helix angle. The straight shank measures 0.25 inch in diameter and the overall length is 2 inches. With five flutes and a right-hand spiral flute configuration, this tool is centercutting capable and suited for finishing and semi-finishing work across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and toolroom operators are the primary installers and users.
The 17003589 is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and hardened materials — covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, N, and H. The short flute length and 5-flute geometry make it well-suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills where rigidity and surface finish are priorities. It is classified as a short-length tool, which aids stability in tight setups and shallow-pocket work.
Designed as a direct-fit tooling solution for standard 0.25 inch collets, ER chucks, and hydraulic tool holders used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials per Series S545 application guidelines.
This end mill is installed by machinists or CNC setup technicians using a compatible collet or tool holder rated for 0.25 inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle and machine are fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.0005 inch TIR maximum spec after seating the tool in the holder. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool — use external coolant or dry cutting strategies as appropriate for the workpiece material.
