The SECO 17003587 is a single-end square end mill designed for material removal in demanding machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN, it handles heat and abrasion well at elevated cutting speeds. The 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch) cutting diameter pairs with a 3/8 inch length of cut and a 1/4 inch straight shank. Five spiral flutes at a 45-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and a smooth surface finish. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling. This tool is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC mills, manual knee mills, and machining centers.
The Series S545 17003587 is suited for short-reach applications in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and hardened materials. The AlTiN coating extends tool life when cutting ferrous and difficult alloys at higher surface speeds. The 2 inch overall length keeps the tool rigid in setups where deflection is a concern, making it a practical choice for precision slots, pockets, and profiling cuts in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in straight-shank tool holders accepting a 1/4 inch shank diameter. Rated for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and hardened materials per Series S545 application guidelines.
Install in a collet or end mill holder rated for 1/4 inch straight shanks and confirm runout does not exceed the 0.0005 inch TIR maximum before cutting. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Verify shank seating depth and holder clamping torque per the machine tool manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping after each use, especially when cutting hardened or high-temperature alloy workpieces.
