The SECO 17003585 is a single-end square end mill designed for precision material removal in demanding machining environments. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN coating, this tool delivers thermal resistance and edge retention across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 5-flute geometry with a 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and a smooth surface finish. At 3/16 inch in diameter with a 5/16 inch length of cut and a 2 inch overall length, this is a short-series tool suited for close-tolerance work in confined areas. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous materials, and hardened materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, N, and H. It is well suited for slot milling, profiling, and peripheral cutting operations on vertical machining centers and CNC mills. The centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. The Series S545 designation places this tool within SECO's short-series square end mill lineup for general and high-performance milling applications.
Designed as an OEM-style tooling solution for use in standard straight-shank tool holders sized for 3/16 inch shank diameters, compatible with ER collets, end mill holders, and similar workholding systems commonly used on vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers.
This tool is installed by machinists or CNC setup technicians using appropriate collet or end mill holder systems. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the tool. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production runs, as TIR tolerance is 0.0005 inch maximum. Follow the machine manufacturer's recommended torque specifications for the tool holder being used, and confirm cutting parameters match the workpiece material and coating requirements.
