The SECO 17003404 is a single-end, corner radius end mill ground from solid carbide and coated with AlTiN via a PVD process. It carries a 3/16-inch (0.1875 inch) mill diameter, a 5/16-inch (0.3125 inch) length of cut, and a 0.0100-inch corner radius. The three-flute, right-hand spiral geometry runs a 35-degree medium helix and is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry as well as peripheral and face milling. Targeted at shops running steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, this tool is sized for finishing passes and light roughing in tight-tolerance features where tool diameter and corner geometry must be held close.
The 17003404 belongs to SECO Series S335, a short-length end mill line suited to CNC machining centers and high-speed milling applications. The coarse pitch and AlTiN coating make it appropriate for dry or semi-dry cutting in ferrous and hard materials. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts in standard collet chucks, ER toolholders, or hydraulic chucks. Typical applications include slot milling, pocket milling, and profiling in steel and stainless components where a small-diameter, corner-radiused tool is required to blend features or prevent stress concentrations at part corners.
Designed for use with standard collet-style and hydraulic toolholders accepting a 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as specified by SECO material codes P, M, and S.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in an e-stop or locked-out state per applicable shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the collet nut to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting; maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0005 inch. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; apply flood or mist coolant externally at the cutting zone as needed.
