The SECO 17003162 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous machining applications. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length with a 0.5 inch straight shank. The tool runs a 3-flute geometry with a 45-degree helix angle and a bright uncoated finish, making it well suited for high-speed cuts in softer metals where chip clearance and surface finish matter. Manufactured from micrograin carbide, it delivers dimensional stability and edge retention across extended production runs. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers are the primary users for this tool in milling centers and machining cells.
This end mill is intended for cutting aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous materials where a bright uncoated carbide edge performs reliably without the added friction of a coating. The centercutting design allows for plunge entry, and the right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes is compatible with standard CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines. The long-length profile gives added reach in pocketing, slotting, and profiling operations where a standard-length tool cannot access the workzone. It belongs to SECO Series A345.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill for use in standard 0.5 inch collet or end mill holders on CNC vertical machining centers and manual knee mills. Primary workpiece material code N covers aluminum and non-ferrous metals per SECO Series A345 classification.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The spindle must be brought to a full stop and the machine powered down before changing tooling. Secure the 0.5 inch straight shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder, torquing to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.0005 inch TIR maximum before beginning a production cut.
