The SECO 17003140 is a solid carbide, single-end square end mill designed for high-precision milling operations in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 0.25 inch diameter cutting edge with a 0.375 inch length of cut and a 45-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation in soft, gummy materials. The micrograin carbide substrate delivers edge sharpness and wear resistance well beyond standard grades. This tool ships uncoated (bright finish), which is appropriate for aluminum applications where certain coatings can cause material adhesion. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in job shops, aerospace facilities, and general manufacturing typically specify this tool for finishing and light roughing passes.
This end mill fits standard short-length tooling applications where rigidity and minimal overhang are priorities. Its 0.25 inch straight shank accommodates common ER collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and end mill adapters found on vertical machining centers and CNC routers. The right-hand cut, right-hand spiral flute configuration and centercutting capability allow plunge entry, slotting, profiling, and ramping operations. Primary workpiece materials are aluminum and non-ferrous metals, consistent with the Series A345 geometry and uncoated bright finish. The short overall length of 2.5 inches limits reach but maximizes tool stiffness.

Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine in an E-stop or fully powered-off state and spindle confirmed at rest. Seat the straight shank fully into the holder to the minimum clamping depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer before torquing. Inspect the collet and bore for chips or wear before clamping, as contamination directly affects runout and can cause premature tool failure. Follow shop-specific speeds and feeds for the target material, and verify that coolant or air blast is directed at the cutting zone to clear chips, particularly in slotting operations.
