The SECO 17002990 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 2-inch length of cut, and a 45-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action in soft, gummy, or abrasive non-ferrous alloys. Built from micrograin solid carbide, this single-end tool delivers consistent edge sharpness and dimensional stability across production runs. It carries a bright, uncoated finish and is center-cutting capable, allowing plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual knee mills handling aluminum, brass, copper, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials. Its short-length designation keeps the tool compact and rigid, reducing deflection during aggressive side-milling passes. The straight shank seats directly into standard ER or side-lock toolholders with a 1-inch bore. It is not designed for extended-reach applications and does not feature coolant-through capability, making it best suited for flooded or air-blast coolant delivery setups typical in job shops and production machining environments.
Designed for use in 1-inch bore toolholders including ER collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, and side-lock holders on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Primary workpiece compatibility is aluminum and non-ferrous materials, SECO material code N. Part of the SECO Series A245.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the spindle fully powered down and the machine in an e-stop or lockout state before tool changes. Ensure the straight shank is clean and free of chips or burrs before seating in the toolholder, and torque retention knobs or collet nuts to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator against the TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches after installation before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity.
