The SECO 17002985 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous metal applications. It features a 0.75-inch cutting diameter, a 1.625-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length on a 0.75-inch straight shank. The two-flute geometry and 45-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation, making this tool well-suited for the high-feed, high-speed conditions common in aluminum machining. The micrograin carbide substrate provides wear resistance and edge retention. The bright uncoated finish is standard for non-ferrous work where coatings can cause built-up edge. This is a centercutting, right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration in the Series A245 short-length category.
This end mill targets machining of aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous materials in production and job shop environments. The short length-of-cut classification keeps the tool rigid during slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. It is appropriate for use on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where a 0.75-inch collet or end mill holder is available. No coolant-through capability means it is used with external flood coolant or air blast as the primary chip-clearing method.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for machines accepting a 0.75-inch straight shank end mill, with primary workpiece compatibility rated for aluminum and non-ferrous materials under SECO Series A245.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the controller placed in an estop or lockout state before inserting or removing the tool. Use a properly sized end mill holder or collet to achieve full shank engagement and minimize runout, referencing the TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters for the workpiece material and machine type.
