The SECO 17002981 is a single-end square end mill designed for material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers rigidity and edge retention that high-speed steel tooling cannot match at comparable cutting speeds. The 5/8-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1-5/8-inch length of cut and a 45-degree helix angle, making it well suited for full-depth slotting and profiling passes in softer alloys. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for applications where coating buildup or adhesion to aluminum would otherwise cause problems. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and toolroom professionals in CNC milling centers and manual knee mills.
This end mill is intended for use on aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous materials where a high positive helix and center-cutting geometry allow plunge entry and aggressive chip evacuation. The Series A245 designation places it within a family of general-purpose solid carbide end mills. The 5/8-inch straight shank fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders commonly found in job shop and production machining environments. No extended reach is required for typical shallow-to-mid-depth pocketing and contouring operations.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the tool holder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the end mill. Ensure the shank is fully seated to the minimum insertion depth recommended by the holder manufacturer to prevent pull-out under cutting load. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use; solid carbide is brittle and should not be dropped on hard surfaces.
