The SECO 17002963 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise milling operations in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 5/16-inch mill diameter, a 1-1/4-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length with a straight 5/16-inch shank. The 2-flute configuration and 45-degree helix angle promote chip evacuation and reduce built-up edge in soft, gummy metals. Micrograin carbide construction delivers hardness and edge retention at the cutting zone. The bright/uncoated finish is standard for non-ferrous work where coating adhesion or heat is not a concern. Single-end geometry with right-hand cut and right-hand flute spiral. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The 17002963 is suited for profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling in aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous alloys. The long-length classification and 1-1/4-inch length of cut allow access to deeper pockets and features without sacrificing rigidity for the given diameter. Centercutting capability enables direct plunge entry. The Series A245 designation places this tool within a defined geometry family intended for non-ferrous and light alloy applications. It is sold as a single-end tool, meaning the shank end is not a cutting end.
Designed for use in aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials (material code N). Part of the SECO Series A245 long-length end mill family. Compatible with standard straight-shank toolholders accepting a 5/16-inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Secure the straight shank in a collet chuck or end mill holder to the appropriate clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.0005-inch maximum TIR before cutting. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the workpiece. Do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut for the diameter class.
