The SECO 17002957 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 0.25-inch cutting diameter, a 0.75-inch length of cut, and a 2.5-inch overall length with a 0.25-inch straight shank. The two-flute geometry and 45-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation in softer, gummy materials where flute loading is a common problem. Micrograin carbide substrate provides the edge retention and rigidity needed for consistent dimensional accuracy. This is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can be plunged directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled entry point. It ships uncoated, which is the standard choice for aluminum to prevent built-up edge.
This end mill is built for light to medium milling operations on aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous materials. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and pocketing on CNC machining centers and manual mills. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration suits standard spindle rotation on most vertical and horizontal milling setups. The Series A245 designation places it within SECO's catalog of general-purpose fractional-inch solid carbide end mills aimed at production and job shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide end mill for use in standard 1/4-inch collet systems and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual vertical mills. Primary workpiece material classification is aluminum and non-ferrous metals (material code N).
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Secure the shank in a clean, undamaged 1/4-inch collet or end mill holder and verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.0005 inches before cutting. Do not use this tool on ferrous materials, as the uncoated carbide substrate and flute geometry are not optimized for steel or cast iron.
