The SECO 17002225 is a single-end solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Part of the AN345 series, it features a 3/8-inch diameter with a 3/4-inch length of cut and a 45-degree helix angle optimized for efficient chip evacuation in softer, gummy materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides edge integrity at higher feed rates. With a 3-inch reach length and 5-inch overall length, this is a long-reach tool suited for deep-cavity and shoulder milling where a standard-length end mill cannot access the cut zone. A licensed machinist or CNC setup technician installs and qualifies this tool.
The 17002225 is intended for milling aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous workpiece materials, classified under primary material code N. The long reach and extended 5-inch OAL make it appropriate for aerospace, automotive, and general machining applications where clearance between the spindle nose and the workpiece is required. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the material without a pre-drilled hole, adding versatility for pocket and slot operations. This tool fits standard 3/8-inch collets and toolholders.
Designed for use in standard 3/8-inch collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and ER-style toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Primary application is aluminum and non-ferrous materials per AN345 series designation. No coolant-through capability; external flood or mist coolant delivery is recommended.
Qualified machinists or CNC setup personnel should install this tool using a torque-rated collet wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.0005 inches after seating the tool. Power down the machine spindle and engage the e-stop before changing tooling. Do not exceed the rated depth of cut or axial engagement for the material and machine setup.
